The Blacon Community Trust sign the new lease

On Monday 5th March Joe Rose, Chairman of the Blacon Community Trust, signed the lease for the former Dee Point Infants School building at a BCT board meeting that took place at the new centre.

Ms Nuala Keegan, Regeneration and Social Inclusion Manager, Cheshire County Council accompanied Joe on the evening.

Joe said, "We are grateful to the County for granting us the lease. The new Dee Point Centre will be a great benefit to the local community."

Social Enterprise Partnership AWARDS
CHESHIRE’S OUTSTANDING TRUSTEES

Dedicated Trustees and Volunteers were recognised for their achievements at an awards celebration evening at Willington Hall Hotel in Tarporley.

The first annual Social Enterprise Awards, hosted by Cheshire & Warrington Social Enterprise Partnership, and attended by the Chairman of Cheshire County Council, Cllr Neville Price, was in recognition of the contribution made by Trustees and Directors of social enterprises in managing and promoting their organisations.

The Chairman said ‘It was great to see so many members of voluntary organisations enjoying each other’s company and networking’.

Nominations were assessed by representatives from social enterprise partnerships from across the North West region.

The award winners, pictured with Cllr Price who presented the awards are (left to right)

  • Roger Morey, a Trustee for 15 years at St Rocco’s Hospice in Warrington won the award for Long Service to Social Enterprise.
  • Joe Rose from Blacon Community Trust won the Director of the Year Award 2007 award for his pioneering leadership in transforming the Trust.
  • Judith Sharman won the Commitment to Success award for her pivotal role in developing the emerging Hoole Enterprise Trust.
  • Lesley Thomas collected the award for Inspirational Leadership on behalf of Yvonne Clarke from Pathways Community Interest Company, set up a year ago to reduce health inequalities in Cheshire and Wirral.

The Making the Difference - Outstanding Contribution Award was presented to June Rai, a founder member and Secretary of Chester Credit Union.

Blacon Community Trust; bigger and brighter.

Everything is bigger and brighter at the Dee Point Centre where Joe Rose and the Blacon Community Trust team have settled into their new home at the former Dee Point Infants School.

The Trust have left their small HQ behind at Blacon Library and moved just round the corner onto Blacon Point Road. Staff and volunteers have been busy refurbishing the site and it is now business as usual and a warm welcome to all visitors.

Joe's self service is a brand new addition at the Dee Point Centre, a place to take the weight off your feet for a while and enjoy a tea or coffee break. You can read the papers or a catch-up with friends; just 50p and free top-ups!

Life is vibrant at the Centre with plenty of activity over on the Kids' Community Club (KCC) side, and a whole variety of community meetings and projects going on around the cafe area.

It is from the Dee Point Centre that the Trust will continue to administrate all the local services you have come to enjoy and expect from the BCT. These include the Blacon Community Awards, Summer Splash, Santa's Grotto, Community Transport, Building Your Blacon, Firm Star, tBlacon Community Centre, Blacon Volunteers, Kids' Community Club and Building Young People's Potential.
