The Blacon Community Awards were established in 1997 to honour the ‘unsung heroes’ of Blacon who freely give of their time and effort for the benefit of others.

The BCA nomination forms are sent out to the general public in the summer and an independent panel then selects the winners to be honoured at the autumn celebration.

Now in its thirteenth year the Blacon Community Awards is firmly established as one of the neighbourhood’s favourite celebrations. The awards night came about after a chance remark made by the late and much loved Harold Tomlins, a long serving Blacon councillor and former Mayor of Chester: “You have to die before anybody says anything good about you!” In a bid to address the situation the Blacon Community Awards were launched by the Trust to honour an individual every year for their enthusiasm and dedication.

The Harold Tomlins hand carved trophy was created by Paul Noon of the Blacon Adventure Playground and incorporates a rose and bee motif representing hard work and devotion.
