The ‘Building Your Blacon’ Action Plan objective is to create “a desirable ‘garden township’ within the City, encompassing integrated sustainable communities, a flourishing economy and quality local centres, supported by a strong sense of pride and a positive image.” As part of the Community Resources Team, Alison Amesbury (BYB Vision Coordinator) oversees and coordinates the delivery of the ‘Building Your Blacon’ Action Plan.
There are 7 Big Projects we want to see happen over the next 10+ years. These are:
1-5 YEARS
1. Area Improvements at Dee Point
- Build a new shop at Stratford Road
- Create a new safe and attractive residential area at Treborth Road with new houses and flats for rent and sale
- Improve car parking & make getting about easier & safer
- Improve children’s play and facilities for young people
2. Blacon High School
- Improve sport & community activities
- Get more people to use the school facilities after hours
- Become a centre for excellence in sport
3. Business development
- Supporting existing commercial businesses
- Provide facilities and support the set up of new businesses
- Develop social enterprises and community businesses
- Make existing social enterprises stronger and better, especially Well Blacon, the Blacon Furniture Project and Building Young People’s Potential
3-10 YEARS AND LONGER
4. The Parade
- Create a ‘centre’ for Blacon
- Improve the shops and services, such as the Health Centre
- Make it a safe and pleasant shopping experience
5. Environmental Projects
- Create a country park at Blacon/Sealand Meadows
- Improve the quality of open spaces in Blacon
- Create a network of smaller open spaces
- Make Blacon into Chester’s ‘Garden township’
6. Canalside Redevelopment
- Improve the face of Blacon to the rest of Chester
- Enhance the entrance to Blacon at Parkgate Road
- Explore the possibility of redeveloping the Canal-side area to provide new homes and jobs

7. Marketing and promotion of Blacon
- Improve the image of Blacon to the outside world
- Make Blacon a better place to live
- Tell everyone about it
