The 10th Annual Blacon Community Awards
were held on Friday 17th November 2006 at Blacon Social Club,
Church Way,
Blacon, Chester.
The local community made nominations in the following categories:
- The Harold Tomlins Trophy.
- The Young Ambassador Award.
- The Lifetime Achievement Award.
The evening included excellent entertainment by students from Blacon High School, BYPP (Building Young People's Potential) and KCC (Kid's Community Club)
plus a buffet and disco.
The panel of judges for the awards comprised representatives from:
- Chester District Standard Newspaper.
- MBNA Europe.
- The Hope Centre.
- Chester Evening Leader.
- Chester Volunteer Bureau.
The winners were announced as follows:
Joint winners of the 2006 Harold Tomlins Trophy (photo right)
Tanya Hunt-Griffiths, Rose Wild, and Jemma Graham. Here they are pictured with Deputy Chair of the Cheshire County Council, Stephen Wilkinson.
Working with with the 'Building Young People's Potential', Hand in Hand parent's group they helped organise a Teenage Pregnancy Conference for over 80 professionals, and then took the workshop into schools and youth groups.
The Lifetime Achievement Award
winner was Barbara Reeves, and was presented with her award by last year's winner Joe Rose (BCT chair). Barbara
served over forty years as treasurer for the Blacon Community Association and ran the Bingo at Blacon Community Centre.
Winner of the 2006 Young Ambassador Award was Adam Nicholson who collected his prize from Christine Russell MP.
Adam has given excellent service by supporting young people on the Youth Inclusion Project and winning the best new recruit prize at Chester Air Training Corps.
